We all own at least several pairs. Both iconic and easy to wear, the jean is probably one of the most universal garments. But they are far from being the most environmentally friendly. Did you know that it takes up to 10,000 litres of water to make them?
Fortunately, whether it's in good condition or not, there are a whole host of ways to reuse an old pair of jeans, for yourself or for the house. So before you buy new jeans, make do with what you've got. You don't need a new piece to renew yourself!
When your jeans start to shed or show holes, don't fight it. It might be best to focus on them!
Whether you're a punk at heart or a fan of casual chic, the (cleverly) ripped jean goes with every style. They're the touch of character that's sometimes missing from a look. With a white shirt or chunky knit jumper, for example, they provide an interesting contrast. If you want to create the imperfections yourself, aim for strategic areas such as the knees.
This transformation is particularly useful when you have several pairs of similar jeans. Are you reluctant to get rid of them because, after all, do you really need 4 pairs of black jeans? Probably not!
A good pair of scissors will be all you need to transform your jeans into a summer wardrobe timeless: denim shorts. Just be careful not to cut the inside of the pockets inadvertently. And don't worry about the fringes, they're the cool little detail!
The basket is one of the easiest transformations to make from a jeans leg. It's as pretty as it is useful, and can also make an original gift idea. Remember: whether in the hallway, bathroom or bedroom, we always need a little storage basket!
This is an idea to keep in mind when you have several pairs of jeans on hand. Keep your favourite, or the one in the best condition, as the main piece. Then, the easiest thing to do is to cut out different shapes from the others, and assemble them as you see fit. For (even) more originality, the seams can even be visible and made in a contrasting thread. In short, let your creativity flow. The result doesn't have to be perfect: it's a unique piece that you're creating.
Turning jeans into a bag will require a bit more work. You'll need to make several seams, and think about the handles (here, this might be a good opportunity to give that belt lying around a new lease of life...).
The beauty of this transformation is that denim is particularly strong. What's more, most denim models already have pockets. Handy for your keys or travel card.
