Nowadays, finding Trousers that fit you just right is no easy task and often you have to go through the alterations process. Although we no longer have the reflex to go to the tailor as we did in the last century, the alterations service is an essential service for those who insist on having a fitted wardrobe.
There's nothing more chic than a man in a well-tailored chino or more elegant than a woman in perfectly fitted Trousers. It's the little extra, the final detail, the one that makes an outfit impeccable.
There are different ways to alter Trousers. It will depend on its cut, material and construction.
But generally, the alterationist will be able to change the crotch, bottom, leg width, waist and possibly the butt of your Trousers.
We can touch up a fabric that has torn at the crotch, as is often the case with jeans. The touch-up will then depend on the extent of the damage. The best thing, of course, being to consult at the first signs of wear.
You may also have lost weight and your Trousers are yawning at the crotch. Or that, on the contrary, slant creases are forming under your buttocks? Then you'll need to make sure you hollow out the curve of the Trousers.
The hem is undoubtedly the most common alteration on a pair of Trousers and has become something of an art when it comes to style.
Depending on your outfit, your size or the cut of your Trousers, the tailor will be able to direct you towards one hem rather than another.
But don't expect your Trousers to go with derbies, trainers and loafers all at the same time. It's simply not possible. To determine the height of your hem, it's best to choose the pair of shoes you're most likely to wear your Trousers with.
Trousers that are too wide or too tight?
Don't worry, we'll be able to touch them up. Most of the time, manufacturers leave a margin of fabric in the seams that allows you to widen by 3 or even 4 centimetres. And for a larger enlargement, our Tilliste can always suggest using a fabric yoke, which will add uniqueness to your Trousers.
If, on the other hand, the legs are too wide, simply remove some material, taking care not to alter the overall cut of your Trousers.
To enlarge the waist of your Trousers, we'll come dismantle the waistband. You can usually expect to gain 2 to 3 centimetres thanks to the seam allowances left by the manufacturer. But here again, you can consider adding a yoke that will allow for greater widening.
Reducing the waist is also an entirely feasible option, also taking in the waistband and making sure to match the rest of the Trousers accordingly.
