Your dress is too short and because of this detail, you don't wear it anymore. What a shame!
What if we told you that there were different ways to correct this length? What if we told you that after reading this article, you'll have all the keys in hand to learn how to lengthen your dress yourself?
Come on, let's not waste any time, we'll explain it all below.
If you only want to save two or three centimetres, you can unstitch the hem of your dress. This method is ultra simple and will take you very little time!
For the more novice among you, we remind you that the hem is the Finishing at the bottom of your dress. You'll see, normally, there's a part folded over itself and sewn, at the bottom of your dress. This is what gives it a pretty finish.
The most common way to lengthen your dress is to add a strip of fabric of the height of your choice to the bottom of your dress.
Most of the time, finding exactly the same fabric as your dress is mission impossible. Nevertheless, it will be essential to choose this new fabric well. The material should be similar to that of your dress and the colour should blend naturally with the original fabric.
You will then simply sew this strip of fabric to the bottom of your dress and add a hem to complete the Finishing.
In a similar vein, you can add a ruffle to the bottom of your dress. And in general, ruffles go with all dress cuts.
Here again, make sure you choose the right fabric for your ruffle and its type (simple, tight, long, tiered,...).
To give you an idea, with a knit, lace or even linen dress, you're more likely to use a simple flounce.
It's the cut of your dress and the style you want to give it that will help you find the right ruffle!
