And yes, today we're going to talk sewing and more specifically the technique of darts which allow us to constrict a garment and fit it perfectly to our figure.
We can use darts on Trousers, skirts, dresses, jackets or even coats, but this article will be devoted to blouses.
Chest darts, back darts, cuff darts, discover how to make these adjustments and have a super fitted blouse!
The darts are materialised by a triangle or diamond on your pattern. They are usually sewn on after the fabric has been overstitched.
Initially, you will need to notch the ends of the darts and mark the point with a needle and then with a coloured stitch on your fabric.
With a ruler and pencil, you can trace the clip on your fabric, joining the notches and the tip.
Then fold the clip in half, pin and stitch over the line with your machine.
Important note: for the clips, it is important to keep a length of thread at the end of the seam (approx. 5cm). Make a double knot with the threads that you will then cut.
To finish, all you have to do is run an iron over it to make sure your clip is well marked!
If you've got a blouse that's too wide and you want to add darts to adjust it to your waist, you're going to, first of all, need to spot where an adjustment is required. In the back? The chest?
It's ideal to have two people to do this work. You wear your blouse while the second person marks the marks to be adjusted.
In the same way as with a pattern, you can then trace the darts on the reverse of your fabric and sew them in.
Don't hesitate to ask one of our Tillists to carry out this process. While sewing the darts is a relatively simple technique, determining their markings and fitting a garment properly is a job that requires real professional skills.
