It seems that fringing never goes out of fashion and even if we ignore it for a season, it always ends up coming back, have you noticed? At Tilli's, we love them! And today we'd like to introduce you to the art of wool fringe.
Have you made a beautiful knitted shawl and would like to add some fringe?
Although it requires patience, you should know that making fringes is really accessible to everyone!
You'll preferably use the same wool as your shawl, but don't hesitate to play around with colours.
Initially you'll need to work out the length of fringe you want and multiply it by two. For example, if you want fringes that are 10cm long, you'll need to cut 20cm of yarn.
Once you've cut enough threads to go the length of your shawl, group them together in small bundles, depending on the thickness of fringe you want. Let's say three or four strands together, which you fold in half, making a fringe of six or eight strands.
Use a hook to insert all the threads around the edge of your shawl and make a loop to consolidate everything. See the example in the photo above.
You'll just have to repeat this manipulation all along your shawl to get beautiful fringes!
You see, it's easy!" Fringes require time above all, so start this craft in the right conditions.
For those of you who would like to add an extra touch to your shawl, you can opt for pom-pom fringes!
They'll require even more patience but who cares! Pompons are real cuteness that we'll never get tired of!
