Curtains are the finishing touch to any interior. A little luxury that can sometimes be expensive, but which adds so much life to a room.
Today we're focusing on curtains with eyelets and explaining how to hang them!
Choosing the fabric is certainly the most exciting part of making a curtain.
There are so many colours and so many materials. Depending on the style you want to give your interior, you'll choose one over another.
Although expensive, linen and cotton remain among the fabrics of choice for our beloved curtains. They blend with many types of interior, from chic and charming to country.
Veilage is also an interesting option as it will bring softness and voluptuousness to your room. With a few tassels, you'll even give it a bohemian touch.
Finally, and to name just a few, heavy fabrics will bring a cosy atmosphere to your room. This is the case with velvet, jacquards or even blackout fabrics.
Although they are decorative, curtains play other roles that are just as important. So study the amount of sunlight in your room, its phonic and thermal qualities, its colours,...they are all criteria that can help you choose your curtains properly.
Before you buy your eyelets, do a little preparation: check the diameter of your rod, the thickness of your curtain, its length and the colours.
In fact, there are different diameters of eyelets and different styles (plastic, metal, ...).
To determine the number of eyelets you'll need, prepare your curtain and test the placement of the eyelets on the top strip. To give you an idea, one eyelet every 20 cm is a good average. Also be aware that you should always put an even number of eyelets so that the curve of your curtain always ends up towards the wall.
You can use a reinforcing strip on the top of your curtain. There are polyester strips that will reinforce and accentuate the fall of your curtain. It is very simply placed on the top of the curtain and you can fold the fabric over it or leave it as it is. For more information you can take a look at our special curtain top article.
When your curtain is ready, and you've proceeded with the seams and the the bottom hem, you can move on to fitting the eyelets. And you'll see, it's relatively simple. Lay your curtain flat and place the eyelets next to each other, at the desired distance.
Using chalk, trace the eyelet circles onto the fabric. You will then come to cut them out neatly and clip the eyelets.
Pretty easy, isn't it?
