That's it, you've finally decided to sew your living room curtains. And because you don't do things by halves, you've opted for double curtains. It's a good idea, they'll have more hold and better opacity.
Go and get that fabric you've been crushing on!
Tilli tells you how to sew your curtains to perfection and give your home a crazy charm.
You need to start getting used to this crucial step! As with any sewing project, the first thing to do is take measurements. And here, it's the measurements of your windows that we're interested in, the width and height.
Allow for a 15 centimetre overhang on each side + what's needed for the hems.
What's more, we advise you to double these measurements to get beautiful gathers on your curtains.
When choosing the lining for your curtains, choose a plain fabric.
Unlike cotton sateen linings, polyester linings are machine washable.
If your budget allows, you can also choose the same fabric as your curtains.
You'll cut the lining to the same measurements as your curtains.
When your two fabrics are cut, place them one on top of the other.
Prepare the bottom hems and vertical edges.
Pin the curtain and lining together and sew.
You'll be able to fold the top hem of the curtain over the lining and place a ruflette, sewing the two layers together to finish.
