If there's one garment that's hard to standardize, it's trousers.
In fact, morphologies are so varied that it's not easy to find trousers that fit perfectly.
Here's how to narrow the width of your trousers at the thighs and get a tailor-made garment.
Start by turning your trousers inside out and ironing them. It's vital that they are perfectly flat and therefore perfectly ironed, especially at the seams.
Next, you have two options. Either you have an ideal pair of trousers to use as a template, or you take your own measurements and pin on your trousers.
Be aware that trouser legs don't shrink just anywhere. Sewing in the wrong place can break the fall and look of your trousers.
If your shrinkage doesn't exceed 3 cm, you'll make the alterations only above the knees.
On the other hand, if the alterations are more substantial, you'll spread them in two different places: above and below the knees.
Unfold the hem of your trousers, trace and pin the modification lines.
Be very careful to catch up with the original lines of your trousers, at the bottom and top, to avoid ending up with a "beak" of excess fabric once the seam is finished.
You can then machine-sew these lines, trimming the excess fabric and surfacing the edges to prevent fraying.
You'll end up with trousers that are just right for you!
